Fantasy for all ages

March 13th, 2008

I hope you enjoyed the conclusion to Super Pet Mojo, the light hearted sci-fi adventure by Robert Burke Richardson, Roe Mesquita, and Jared Rourke. My thanks to them for their contribution. I wound up coloring the second chapter, and this was the first time where I colored someone else’s work. I had a lot of fun with that.

Now we begin updating the second chapter of Richard Stevens’ fantasy epic, The Elements of Destiny. For you fantasy lovers out there, this isn’t the only Sugary Serials comic told in this genre. Back in issues 1-3 we serialized Equalizers of the Divide, by Sara Turner and myself. It’s exciting for me to see the individual takes on the same genre within the anthology. Richard’s vision is so different than Sara’s and my own, yet we all wind up working in the same sandbox and with results that I find equally entertaining. Here’s hoping that this means there’s something for everyone here.

Still hungry for more fantasy content? Shawn Robare of Branded in the 80s has some wonderful and in-depth reviews of the 80s fantasy cartoon Dungeons & Dragons, complete with synopses, contextual info from the writers’ standpoints, and lots of screen captures. You can start with the first episode here. You may also remember Shawn as a host of many episodes of the Saturday Supercast, the Sugary Serials podcast where we talk with the creators of the comics and sometimes go on nostalgic cartoon benders.

What’s your favorite fantasy story? Is it a comic, cartoon, book, or movie? We’d love to hear your thoughts in our forum!
